Cut the plate into four pieces .. and join them as shown above ....

All the numbers are in cm. If 1 cm thick, the left plate has a volume of
8 cm * 8 cm * 1 cm = 64 cm³
and the right one a volume of
13 cm * 5 cm * 1 cm = 65 cm³

You got 1 cm³ of gold from nothing !
