The applet is computing the longest and shortest day of the year, the day of earliest and latest sunrise,
and the day of earliest and latest sunset.
The time range of the graph is November 15 to January 31 for winter solstice,
and May 15 to July 31 for summer solstice.

The longest day (sommer solstice) is not the day of earliest surise and/or latest sunset,
the shortest day (winter solstice) is not the day of latest surise and/or earliest sunset !

For low latitudes (near the equator) the day of ealiest sunrise occurs long before the date of solstice:
